Debate.

Kennedy will be turning 6 months here in two weeks.
I have kinda had a debate in my head.
I want to hear what you all think.

Is 6 months too young to get ears pierced?

Each side of debate:
-young and get it over with, they won't remember the pain
-wait until they can make the choice for themselves

A) I don't know if I want to be responsible for the 10 sec pain
B) I got mine done at SIX WEEKS gesh, but I never once grew up thinking; man I wish my mom would have let me made me decided if I wanted my ears pierced

Ultimately I know our decision but I really want to hear what other think!
So comment & let me know, ok GO!

By the way if you could click over yonder on the left
& vote for circle of mom's
Would be amazing! :)

  2. L is only 4 months and we've known since day 1 that we would be piercing her ears at a young age. In fact we'll probably be doing it this weekend. I say go for it!

  3. I pierced my twin daughters ears at 8 weeks. The pediatrician did it for me! They have never said anything to me regarding NOT wanting their ears pierced and have never once touched or played with them as young babies/toddlers. Now that they are 6 they can change them on their own. I say GO FOR IT!

  4. I pierced my daughters ears when she was 5 months old. I wouldnt change my choice. I had my ear repierced as a teenager and it hurt like crazy. My daughter only cried for maybe 5 minutes and then she was a happy little girl again. She is now almost 19 months old and hasnt played when them as much as i thought she would

  5. I had mine pierced at three months..I too have never been bothered by the fact that I didn't get a say in the matter. In fact I always felt special, because most of the other little girls didn't have theirs done for a few years. So there's no harm, just do it :)

  6. I agree with waiting. I think I would be a fun "big decision" for her and when she's ready we'll go together and it will be a fun bonding time. I'm a tattooed & pierced mama, so it's not the pain I'm worried about it's just not really my decision to make, it's Lilla's body. :)

  7. My mom waited till I asked to have them done and plan on doing the same with my daughter. But a friend of mine who is a nurse said dont wait past a year, and ask your pediatrician if they will do it.

  8. sure...why not. get the pain over with :) she will most likely want them done when she is older anyway. Plus....think of all those cute ear-rings you get to use :)

  10. My PERSONAL opinion is to let them decide when they get older. My thinking being 1- feeling responsible for the few seconds of pain and 2-even with baby backs, I don't see how laying on their ears doesn't hurt.

I don't think badly of anyone who has their young baby's ears pierced it's just not personally for me!

  11. Tara,

First, I don't think any mom wanting her dd's ears pierced as an infant is crazy for wanting it done. Admittedly, I know a lot of people have strong feelings when to pierce a child's ear. "Let them decide" is being replaced by parental decision when mommy intuition knows, "earlier is better" from either personal or friend's experiences of unpleasant childhood ear piercing.

Second, I think it just depends on your own personal choice whether or not you wish your baby or little girl to have pierced ears. If you loved having earrings as girl growing up, then your decision is already made, go ahead now and give her little gold studs or a little CZ in each ear...she'll look adorable in her baby pictures.

Third, I pierced our daughter's ears when she was six weeks old after asking our ped who encouraged me to go ahead when mommy could care for them. She said if they cry, it is because of being restrained or the noise of the piercing instrument, not any pain.

Fourth, my mom pierced my ears when I was 5 days old as and I've loved it....I think earrings on little girls are adorable! If you don't know how she'd look at any age, then hold up a pair of your studs to your daughters ear and decide for yourself.

Fifth, as mothers of girls of all ages, we know litte pierced earrings on babies and little girls celebrates their femaleness and femininity. After all, they are, right?

Lastly, I think down deep, if you're thinking about it or just asking others for their opinions, your mommy intuition is really telling you earlier is better. I'd say go ahead and have it done soon and not worry about it anymore giving your daughter the "gift of pierced ears." Promise she'll thank you later when other little girls are envious of her earrings in pre-school, but afraid to have them done for fear of pain.

Our ped gave me some suggestions for moms having their dd's ears pierced. If you or any moms would like them, write me an e-mail and I'll send them to you.
